he beginning of September 2010 saw the launch of the project \u201eTo work through art - the professional activation of people with intellectual disabilities\u201d. The project will last until the end of October 2011 and will cover the \u015al\u0105skie Voivodeship. The project is an initiative of three entities: The Association for the Support of NGOs MOST, the Children's Aid Association \u201ePokochaj mnie\u201d and the Association for the Support of People with Disabilities and Their Surroundings \u201eTogether\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The aim of the project is to develop solutions to provide employment opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities in artistic undertakings and institutions, and to implement new forms and methods of support for the socio-professional integration of people with disabilities (PWD).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As part of the project, 20 people with intellectual disabilities will be trained in basic acting techniques (stage movement, vocal emission, puppetry techniques), stage design, decoration, costume creation, exhibition preparation, photo\/video recording. During the above-mentioned workshops, videos will be created presenting the skills of people with disabilities, constituting a kind of portfolio of each of the project participants. Ultimately, the portfolio will be placed in the hands of a potential employer, who will be able to assess the skills of the future employee on its basis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The project will also support parents and carers of people with disabilities, for whom a comprehensive range of seminars and workshops has been prepared. Among other things, parents and carers will be able to develop their communication skills, learn how to cope with stressful situations and learn about the basics of employment law in the context of employing people with disabilities. In addition, parents and carers will be able to benefit from general and specialist counselling services to help them cope with the challenges of caring for a disabled person.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Another important project activity will be the dissemination of the developed results among people implementing socio-occupational activation programmes, through the organisation of seminars and an outreach workshop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We hope that the project will contribute to widening employment opportunities for people with disabilities in the cultural industries and to better prepare instructors working with them so that they can successfully prepare them for artistic work, and that there will be an increased interest in professional activity among people with disabilities and their families\/carers, precisely thanks to the enrichment of artistic work on offer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
