We are delighted to report on yet another grassroots initiative taking place in Katowice \u2013 \u201eGreen Up, Katowice!\u201d<\/strong>, the aim of which was to promote attitudes environmentally friendly<\/strong>, raising awareness of environmental protection<\/strong> and integration of the local community<\/strong> on topics related to environmental protection and sustainable development<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project was carried out in two stages, involving the residents of Katowice \u2013 both young and old \u2013 in working together for the good of our planet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stage I: Educational session<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The first stage of the initiative took place 25 July <\/strong>and was characterised by workshop and discussion sessions<\/strong>. Its main aim was to lay the groundwork for the eco-festival, as well as to engage participants in a dialogue about ecology and encourage them to adopt a more conscious approach to environmental protection. As part of this stage, a variety of activities took place, combining theory with practice:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • The debate on the environment<\/strong> \u2013 It was an excellent opportunity to discuss the environmental challenges we face as a society. Participants had the chance to exchange views and learn about different perspectives on nature conservation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • \u201eEkoFashion\u201d workshops\u201d<\/strong> \u2013 creative workshops during which participants learnt how to upcycle and transform old clothes into unique outfits, applying the principles of sustainable fashion.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Workshop: \u201eUpcycling: giving things a new lease of life\u201d<\/strong> \u2013 a hands-on session that explained the principles of the zero-waste philosophy in an accessible way. Participants learnt how to reuse items, giving them a new lease of life.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Eco-friendly Kahoot<\/strong>! \u2013 an interactive quiz which tested participants\u2019 knowledge of ecology and the natural world in an engaging way. Learning through play was very well received.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Stage II: Eco-Festival<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    The highlight of the initiative was an environmental festival in Katowice\u2019s Three Ponds Park<\/strong>, which took place 17 August<\/strong>. The event was open to the public and attracted a large number of participants of all ages \u2013 children, young people, adults and senior citizens. The programme included both educational and entertainment activities:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      \n
    • The \u201eEkomemy\u201d Competition\u201d<\/strong> \u2013 a modern way of engaging young people in environmental education. Participants created their own memes (graphics, photos or texts of a humorous or ironic nature), addressing topics related to recycling, environmental protection and climate change in an accessible way.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • \u201eEko Fortuna\u2019s Wheel\u201d<\/strong> \u2013 a game that combined knowledge of ecology with good fun. Participants answered questions about the environment and won interesting prizes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • IQwood wooden games<\/strong> \u2013 eco-friendly entertainment for the whole family. The wooden puzzles encouraged logical thinking and creativity, whilst also serving as a great example of a sustainable toy.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • \u201eSort like a PRO\u201d<\/strong> \u2013 an interactive educational stand teaching the principles of proper waste sorting. Through play, children and adults were able to consolidate their knowledge of waste management.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      The festival was accompanied by additional attractions \u2013 music from a DJ, a relaxation area, eco-friendly gadgets, and a space for chatting and spending time together in the spirit of environmental responsibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Working together for a green future for Katowice<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

      Initiative \u201eGreen Up, Katowice!\u201d<\/strong> It showed that environmental initiatives can be interesting, engaging and bring real value to the local community. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

      We would like to thank all the participants, partners and everyone involved in the project. We believe that every action, however small, can be a step towards a better, greener future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Organiser and implementer<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

      The event was organised by MOST Association<\/strong>. The project is being carried out, as part of a local initiative, by\u00a0initiative group<\/strong>\u00a0represented by\u00a0Oleksandra Denysiuka<\/strong> and Vadyma Markina.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

      The steering group comprises:<\/strong>\u00a0Oleksandr Denysiuk, Vadym Markin, Anna Stupnitska, Roman Stupnitski, Serhii Miiuts, Roman Misiuna, Denys Golynskyi, Ali Abdalla, Anastasiia Lelikova, Andrii Iliuk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
