3 June Karol Miarka Square has become a place for celebration, remembrance and intergenerational integration. As part of a local initiative „A Musical Journey Through History – 160 Years of Katowice” The residents of Katowice were able to celebrate the city’s anniversary together in an open-air event!

Live music and a tribute to history

The programme included artistic performances which created a unique atmosphere and highlighted the local character of the event. The following performers took to the stage:

  • The duo of Natalia Tomecka and Kuba Kołodziejczyk – with a subtle, atmospheric repertoire,
  • The „Katowice-Kleofas” Accordion Ensemble” – featuring instrumental music inspired by Silesian traditions,
  • The Silesian Folk Choir „Zawodzianki” – featuring vibrant folklore and Silesian folk songs.

Art, history and new technologies

The following could be seen at the event venue:

  • An exhibition of archive photographs of Katowice,
  • An exhibition dedicated to Wojciech Korfanty,
  • A visual performance by Adam Plackowski,
  • The „Rajza z Korfantym” VR multimedia zone”, allowing you to take a virtual journey back in time to the city’s past.

The exhibitions combined historical knowledge with modern forms of communication, engaging people of all ages.

Education and community initiatives

Participants were able to make use of the entertainment and educational area, run by, amongst others, the „Promyk” Senior Citizens’ Club and the Da Moc Foundation. The following activities were organised:

  • workshops on urban greenery and ecology,
  • traditional Silesian games and pastimes,
  • art and social integration activities,
  • an information stand promoting pro-social and civic attitudes.

Organiser and implementer

The event is organised by MOST Association. The project is being carried out, as part of a local initiative, by initiative group represented by Stefania PrzybyłaAgata Kaczmarczyk, and the co-organisers are Senior Citizens„ Club ”Promyk"The Da Moc Foundation and Society of Friends of Katowice.

The steering group comprises: Stefania Przybyła, Agata Kaczmarczyk, Ewa Czardybon, Beata Schwarz, Henryk Bentkowski.
