On Tuesday, 15 April 2025, in Katowice, as part of a grassroots initiative, took place The 1st Silesian Forum on Mediation in Schools. The event was attended by over 100 participants – pupils, teachers, mediators, educators and representatives of organisations working to promote education and social dialogue.
The forum was held under the slogan „Mediation is all about relationships” and provided an opportunity to discuss how to support young people in building positive, respectful relationships at school. Participants took part in workshops, exercises and discussions focusing on conflict resolution, empathetic communication and the role of peer mediation in everyday school life.
During the Forum, young people had the opportunity to take part in inspiring workshops, themed sessions and discussions.
Topics such as the following were discussed:
- the role of a peer mediator,
- ways of dealing with conflict at school,
- the importance of empathy in communication,
- best practices in fostering dialogue.
The pupils shared their experiences and ideas, proving that young people can be effective mediators and leaders of change!
Organiser and implementer
The organiser and implementer was Silesian Association of Family Mediators represented by Aneta Tombarkiewicz-Olszewska (Chair of the Silesian Association of Family Mediators), and co-organisers Silesian Voivodeship Youth Council and Katowice Youth Council. The forum took place under the patronage of the Mayor of Katowice, Marshal of the Silesian Voivodeship and state and educational institutions.
