Seniors! WE ARE ACTING!

The aim of the project is to inspire and stimulate the civic activities of 40 senior citizens within Senior Citizens' Councils by the end of 31 December 2023. The project takes an innovative approach to the civic education of current councillors and those who are ready to apply for the establishment of such a Council in a city where it has not been active so far.

An important aspect of the project is joint learning „in action”. Seniors identify their own and their Council's competences and development needs, and then exchange information with other actors to realise one joint initiative for the benefit of other seniors - residents of the Silesian Voivodeship.

In the project we will realise:

  • 90 hours of civic education and participatory activities;
  • 3 guest visits to meetings of the already active Senior Councils.

We assume that one of the outcomes of the activities will be to inspire Zabrze's senior citizens to apply for a council in the city.

The implementation of the project activities will strengthen the cooperation of the MOST Association in the 3 cities:

- We have been active in Zabrze for more than 20 years, where we support associations for people with disabilities and people 60+. We work closely with the City and see a great need for a Senior Citizens' Council in the city. However, we are keen for the Council to be established on the initiative of Zabrze's senior citizens' communities, not our own;

- in Mysłowice and Katowice, we helped to set up the Senior Citizens' Council (hereafter RS) and have supported these two entities in an advisory capacity since the beginning. In addition, the first RS in Katowice included the late Anna Szelest, a senior citizen and president of the MOST Association.

The project was supported by the Multiannual Programme for Older Persons „Active+” 2021-2025 - Edition 2023.
