The aim of the „Seniorze wpółpracujeMY!” project is to harness the potential of 50 older people living in the Silesian conurbation. This aim will be achieved by increasing these individuals’ social engagement and by identifying and supporting leaders within this community by the end of December 2024.
The aim of the project is to inspire older people and encourage them to take action for the benefit of the older people’s community.
The project will involve older people from the cities of Katowice, Mysłowice and Zabrze, as well as neighbouring towns within the Upper Silesian conurbation.
The following activities will be carried out as part of the project:
- a survey of at least 1,000 older people in the GZM Metropolitan Area. The survey will focus on social needs, civic engagement and opportunities to get involved in participatory processes
- a training trip. This will result in, amongst other things, four community initiatives in collaboration with senior citizens’ councils, senior citizens’ clubs or non-governmental organisations working on behalf of senior citizens
- 132 hours of lessons on civic education and participatory activities
- focus group research involving 35 older people
- a report on a survey of older people’s activities in the GZM, which will be submitted to the GZM Metropolitan Authority’s Executive Board and to all local authorities that are members of the Metropolitan Authority. In addition, the report will be published on the MOST Association’s website and on social media
- 60 hard copies of the report for those who prefer to read documents
- 4 study visits to places that are doing good work for older people. The aim will be to encourage older people to participate in society and get involved in various activities;
- Social media posts by MOST, the Katowice Seniors’ Council and the Silesian Seniors’ Council.
The project will result in the identification of new community leaders amongst older people. Those selected through the project will consciously choose their own way of participating and acting as community leaders for older people. These individuals will be able to stand for election to the Seniors’ Council, set up their own non-governmental organisation, or establish effective and rewarding cooperation with a non-governmental organisation working on behalf of older people.
The „Seniorze wpółpracujeMY!” project is co-funded by the government’s multi-annual programme for older people, „Aktywni+”, for the years 2021–2025
