In Katowice, the group activities for seniors implemented as part of the project Social Transformation of Katowice. Meetings are held periodically and are becoming increasingly popular - attended by a regular group of senior citizens who want to act together, develop and share experiences.
Varied programme of activities
Seniors take part in regular group activities tailored to their needs, pace and interests. Of particular interest in recent weeks have been:
- Integration over coffee - board games, celebrating together and sharing passions.
- Creative handicrafts - painting, collages, decorating with recycled materials and other artistic experiments.
- Healthy movement - breathing exercises, stretching, gentle gymnastics and elements of relaxation.
- Thematic discussions - about local history, Katowice's identity, mental health, communication and intergenerational relations.
During the course of the classes, the topics covered are on quality of life, mental health, interpersonal relations, social activity and local heritage. Together, seniors consider how they can influence their surroundings and create more age-friendly spaces.
Going beyond the walls - the city as a meeting place
Also new are field trips - thematic walks in Katowice, during which participants discover the city's history, discuss urban change and natural heritage. There is also ecological elements, such as talks on urban greening, environmental protection and daily habits that benefit the planet.
An atmosphere that builds community
Our senior groups are made up of people who want to be active, curious about the world and open to others. The mutual friendliness, humour and commitment of the participants mean that every meeting brings something new - not only knowledge and skills, but above all a sense of community and security.
