The „RESILIENT KATOWICE” project”
How can you prepare for an emergency? What should you do in the event of an evacuation, a power cut or communication problems? Where can you find reliable information, and how can you work together effectively when joint action is required?
We are launching the project in Katowice „RESILIENT KATOWICE – delivery of training programmes as part of public education on civil defence”, the aim of which is to improve the knowledge and preparedness of residents and local non-governmental organisations to respond to emergency situations.
As part of the project, educational activities are being carried out aimed at adult residents of Katowice and representatives of Katowice-based non-governmental organisations. The training topics include, amongst others,. preparedness for emergencies, civil defence, response to threats, as well as cooperation and the use of local resources.
Training courses for non-governmental organisations
Key elements of the project include two-day training sessions aimed at representatives of Katowice-based NGOs. Their programme combines two thematic areas: mapping local resources and networking organisations and crisis management and civil defence.
Mapping local resources and networking
The first day is devoted to exploring the potential of non-governmental organisations operating in Katowice. Participants work together to identify the organisation’s available resources, expertise and experience, as well as opportunities for mutual support and cooperation.
During the classes, topics covered include, amongst others:
- resources available in individual districts,
- the organisation’s equipment and fittings,
- technical resources, including generators,
- the organisation’s expertise and experience,
- opportunities for mutual support,
- building a local network of cooperation.
Crisis management and civil defence
The second day of the training course focuses on crisis management and civil defence. Participants gain practical knowledge on preparing the organisation to respond to emergencies and supporting local residents.
The programme covers, amongst other things, topics relating to:
- preparing the organisation for crisis situations,
- principles of cooperation and communication,
- organising assistance for residents,
- the role of non-governmental organisations in crisis situations,
- the use of local resources,
- building the resilience of the organisation and the local community.
The training sessions are run by staff with practical experience and knowledge in the field of crisis management and civil defence.
Upcoming training courses for NGOs
Further training sessions for representatives of Katowice-based non-governmental organisations will take place in September and October 2026. Prepared four dates, from which organisations can choose one that suits their location and preferred time for the sessions.
North Katowice and the city centre
The training courses are aimed at organisations operating in the region: Śródmieście, Załęże, the Witosa, Dębu and Wełnowiec-Józefowiec housing estates, Bogucice, Koszutki, Dąbrówka Mała, Burowiec and Szopienice-Burowiec.

The second group comprises organisations operating in the region: Brynów-Ochojec, the eastern part of Brynów – the Zgrzebnioka housing estate, Ligota-Panewniki, Piotrowice-Ochojec, Kostuchna, Podlesie, Zarzecze, Murcki, Giszowiec and Janów-Nikiszowiec.

The training course lasts two days – registration covers attendance on both days of the selected date.
Training courses for residents of Katowice
The project also includes activities aimed directly at adult residents of Katowice.
Scheduled three-hour training sessions held in various parts of the city. Participants will learn, amongst other things, how to respond to alarm signals, prepare for an evacuation and a prolonged crisis, provide first aid, make use of protective equipment and shelters, and know where to find official and reliable information.
The project will also include additional specialist training sessions on first aid and combating disinformation.

Cooperation and local resources
One of the key elements of the project is raising awareness that Preparedness for emergencies relies not only on individual knowledge, but also on cooperation and an understanding of local resources.
Every organisation has its own experience, expertise, contacts and capabilities. Identifying these and establishing cooperation between organisations It may facilitate a coordinated response in situations requiring swift action and support for local residents.
Project „RESILIENT KATOWICE” creates a space for acquiring knowledge, exchanging experiences and building a local network of cooperation between organisations and residents.

We encourage representatives of Katowice-based non-governmental organisations interested in taking part in the training sessions to selecting one of the available dates and completing the application form.
