International meeting of seniors from Ostrava in Katowice - together building the future of active ageing!
Why did we meet?
As part of the project „New Senior” - funded by the Erasmus+ Programme, Katowice 13 - 16 May 2025. hosted by the first delegation of senior citizens from Ostrava. The main objectives of the exchange are:
- strengthening Czech-Polish cooperation,
- exchange of good practice,
- to develop joint ideas that give real support to older people in their daily lives.
Highlights of the programme
- Senior citizen policy of Katowice - presentation of municipal activities and plans.
- Visit to senior citizens' clubs and a meeting with the newly elected Senior Citizens' Council.
- Workshops and panel discussions devoted to, inter alia:
- safe use of the internet,
- digital inclusion of older people,
- social activation and volunteering.
- Integration activities, which brought the participants together and opened the way to further cooperation.
Working together, producing concrete results
Created international working groups composed of employees and leaders senior citizens' organisations from Katowice and Ostrava. Their first achievements were:
- sketches educational material for senior citizens' clubs,
- proposals digital tools facilitating communication,
- ideas for regular events empowering people 60+.

- Tadeusz Oczko - Chairman of the Council of Senior Citizens of the City of Katowice
- Aleksandra Musioł - Plenipotentiary of the Mayor of Katowice for senior citizens' affairs
- Ing. Ludmila Holubová - Vice-Chairperson of the Council of the Coordination Centre for Senior Citizens in Ostrava
Their presence underlined the importance of the meeting and ensured the support of the local government and NGOs.
What have we gained?
Durable foundation for further cross-border projects.
New competences for staff working with seniors.
Inspiration and networking for participants from Ostrava and Katowice.
Motivation to continue their active participation in society.
